I have been impressed with Elive and e17 for quite a while...

Yesterday I did two things:

1. I re-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

2. I installed a dual boot to Elive Gem 1.0

Both installs went without event, I was most impressed with how Elive set up a custom grub menu, with the 3 options:

1. Elive Gem 1.0

2. Windows XP Media Center Edition

3. Memory Diagnostic test

I was also impress

Last year I downloaded a Elive CD and was pretty amazed by it. although it did crash alot but I saw the potential :)

Now, a few month's ago I bought a HP DV9064ea and I thought by myself let's give elive another run and everything runs out of the box once you install it, unbelievable even the integrated webcam seems to function.

Great job with this fine distro :)

When Vista came out, that's when I said,"I have had enough of Windows!".

It gets me that every time Microsoft comes out with a new OS, might as well throw the old one out. Linux is so expandable and we all work together to come out with things as sweet as Elive!

One of the best things i ever tested!!! So fast and smooth, its my dream OS. I have a P4 with 512mb and runs very fast, and i dont even installed it!!!!

Windows Vista? 1GB for optimal performance?? NOT!

This is one of the only 'different' distros that is also fully featured and ready to use out of the box(you know what I mean....) elive Gem also works with my wireless card that isnt supported with uBUNTU anymore(typing from elive now) Its all looking very good!!

Elive release with new kernel

-

The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of development version 1.2.3

Seasons Greetings to all Elive users! The Elive Team is happy to announce the release of a new development version:

  • This version of Elive includes even more stability and usability of the livecd mode, especially when you install applications or do a lot of stuff on it
  • we have also switched to a newer 2.6.23.9 kernel while we wait the final release of 2.6.24 that Elive is going to use.
  • The installer includes many useful and innovative new features that permit you to convert any Linux OS to a Elive system. If you have another linux installation on the partition where you want to install Elive, Elive automates the process by saving all your users, files, passwords, and minor system configurations. Note that this feature at the moment only works on systems that use a separate /home partition.

Note that this is a DEVELOPMENT version, and specially that serie it is not ready for a end-use, on one hand the menus are not customized! but on the other hand remember that the E17 is updated to day from the CVS. Download the ISO o the development section

Please give us a feedback on the #elive-unstable channel! that we can made a better Elive and with faster releases!
