USB Live: A tool to make your USB stick an Elive bootable live system !

Acer Aspire One: Perfectly supported, also with a special tool to disable the fan when not needed (very noisy in the bed)

Flash: Flash updated to the version 10.0.22.87

Console: Better characters for the console mode, more languages supported, smaller font size for console.

All the dependencies of it moved as well (e17 hotkeys, applications calls, thunar default applications, mimetypes, autolaunchers, etc), on the other hand, we can say good-bye to the amazing JESS plugin for xmms.

Russian support is now fixed thanks to a report that someone made, if you have problems with other languages, what are you waiting for? Report it! :)

Installer

Features: Apart from a lot of new internal features, there are some others, such as the one where you can now enjoy having your E17 backgrounds/themes/bar saved in your reinstallations As well as a better and more stable way to detect additional operating systems in order to put them in your grub menu. Please report any operating systems not added to your grum menu, especially windows.

Elive 1.9.29-compiz development (compiz) released

The Elive Team is proud to announce the development release of Elive-Compiz
      version 1.9.29

Much work is being focused on improving the next stable release of Elive 2.0, yet we are glad to have available an improved Compiz version of Elive:

Hibernation: Big rewrite of the hibernation support in Elive, with many extras such as cleanup of old hibernated partitions, live mode detection and warning requesting if the user wants to continue with losing the hibernated state

Installer: Lots of bugfixes and features in the installer:

A special feature to reinstall your favorite packages at every reinstall (upgrade mode) without the need to do it yourself manually

Some packages are not wanted by the end-user like cups, ssh, or hibernation... the user can select them in order to remove them from its installed system, this will also boost a bit the boot and also made the system more light

same IP configuration for your network like in your installed system (for the live mode too)

saved the extra entry's of your /etc/hosts file into your upgraded Elive system

ssh Host Key saved after you upgrade your Elive system

Better management of the Swap partitions

Boot: Fixed broken messages (dialog boxes) in the boot of the live mode

Webcam: A simple webcam viewer is added on your Video menu of applications

Intel Graphic cards: Improved 3d acceleration

Compiz: The cube effect works again (but not enabled by default, since the other one is much more stable)

VirtualBox:

Guest tools installed and configured by default. This means that you can boot Elive within VirtualBox with improvements for mouse and screen

Using: If you install VirtualBox in your Elive system (not a default application), it will work without the need to do any trick by loading modules or adding your users to a special group

Kernel version: 2.6.26.8-elive-686 (revision 40)

Note that this is a DEVELOPMENT (compiz) version. Download the ISO

The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of the development
      version 1.9.28

Partitions: Better detection and listing of the partitions for the live mode and the installer. If you encounter any problem since this version of Elive, please report it!.

Raid: Now the fake-hardware (featured by the motherboard Bios) RAID disks are supported (thanks to the help and tests of watchwolf). A small help about RAID (software mode) is added in the installer describing how to install Elive on raid devices.

Macbooks: We have switched from Lilo to Grub, in the previous versions of Elive you saw that sometimes the system doesn't boot anymore after running the fine-tune step because of some problems with lilo. This is now solved by using grub.

Installer: The development is now all concentrated on the installer, with a large number of minor bugfixes and features.

This is a major update for the Compiz series of Elive

Module: Now instead of configuring compiz from ecsm you can do it from a module

Cube: The cube is disabled by default now due to its instability compared with the wall mode

Switcher: Not that the switcher (windows switcher) of compiz is ugly, but its a bit annoying while the default switcher of E17 is a lot more powerful, configurable, and stable, so we use it as default now (it is still accessed by pressing the 'win' key plus the Tab key)

Note:: Remember that these are the default configurations. You can change them to your taste!

Python Collaboration Help Required

We have a very nice Network-Manager Application called net-connector.
This Python-application uses EFL bindings.
Unfortunately the Author can no longer spend the time required to repair the few bugs that need to be fixed in order to make this Application work correctly. If you feel encouraged you can have the source at development website, if you want to work on the SVN of net-connector just fill up a Collaborate form and contact me in order to have SVN access.

More information at ticket of net-connector

Note: Probably we will use exalt (not finished yet) in the Future again.
It would be a nice Alternative to exalt if the Users like it more.
But at the Moment we need net-connector to work correctly on Elive.

The Release of 2.0 will only have one Networkmanager.

Thanks for your collaboration

Elive Forum Spam Attacks

Yesterday I was informed about a Spam-attack on the Forum's Website (thanks Mark Hamilton). I found nearly 100 posts of Spam. (thanks to enterprises paying spammers for spreading "news" about their software)
It took me a full day raising up the security levels of the Eliveforum, removing Posts, banning Users, banning Expressions, and adding some new Moderators.

I have just noticed that there was no RSS source visible.
We have repaired that now.
Use it in order to be updated about Forum activities.

Want to Collaborate? If you are a CSS designer, feel free to help us at this ticket. Remember that we have the Collaborate form in order to Collaborate with Elive.

Nvidia / Ati: When you upgrade the kernel package and modules, you will broke your nvidia/ati drivers except if you update/install/remove any requirement manually... this problem is solved since this version by holding ALL the kernel/driver packages (and GLX packages) in case that the user needs a nvidia/ati privative driver.

Accelerated boot: A bit more accelerated boot of the live system by sorting the files of the filesystem in the cdrom structure by their access order.

repository-change-icedslash

Like you may know, Elive in the past has used its Elive repository at the same time as the Debian one, actually Elive uses its own Debian repository, it is just a snapshot of the original Debian one, the reason of that is because on this way, the users will not experience anymore surprises like updates that will change things on its Elive system, now the idea is that if the user upgrade the system, all the packages that will need Elive changes will have it.

Im going to remove the subdomain repository.elive-systems.com and debian.elive-systems.com, so if you are using it, please change it to us.repository.elive-systems.com and us.debian.elive-systems.com, also, my friend ikevin has just finished to set up the big repository mirror for Europe, using the very powered icedslash servers, so if you are in europe, you will use europe.repository.elive-systems.com and europe.debian.elive-systems.com instead the US ones for a faster repository :)

I want to thank ikevin for all his collaboration in Elive since long time ago, with the primary mirror of ISOs and now, a mirror of the (big) repository of Elive.

Talking with him today i have just found on the main page of Icedslash his very cheap options, by only 1 euro per month it is possible to have a small webhosting, the next time that i will need to host a small website for me or any friend i will try to remember this nice option :)

Update: This is only meant for the repositories of the development versions, the Stable Gem version doesn't need to change repositories
