We appreciate your feedbacks about the overall speed/lightness of the system compared to last stable version of Elive. You can say something in our chat channel directly from the running system. If you detect any lagging in the system please consider different setups like disabling composite (which you can select on the startup of the graphical system) in order to report improvements. We would also appreciate feedbacks about composite enabled or disabled in old computers, suggestions for better performances, and memory usage compared to Topaz.

Note that these development releases don't include the Elive Installer yet because it's not ready, we also didn't include the proprietary drivers for now (Nvidia/fglrx) but the opensource drivers should detect your hardware and configure your system perfectly.

You can Download this version at the development section.
Please remember that this is an alpha version of Elive which is uncomplete and may have errors, if you want to see a polished result of Elive try the Stable version instead.

Elive 2.1.23 development released

The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of development version 2.1.23

The world has not ended, so now... Be Elive!

We are very excited to announce this very-early first development version of Elive and there are many reasons why we are excited! First, we want to remind you that the reason why nothing has been published yet about Elive is that there were a few things to be rewritten to ensure an overall stable system, which will make other programs more compatible and ensures this version works independently well. New ISOs can be built everyday!

And that's not all! Secondly, we have AMAZING new features coming, compared to the last version of Elive Stable 2.0 Topaz, but you need to keep in mind that this is the first development version, and it's still in an early alpha stage. We know that there are a few things to finish, so don't expect it to be working perfectly just yet. At this point in development we are more interested in your feedbacks about system optimization rather than bug reports.

For now we will list the new features, which with the special collaboration with PrinceAMD, we are improving in many ways.

This is a brief summary of what you can find:

The final stable release of Enlightenment 17!

Improvements in E17 like "focus remember", or an emodule for productivity (style pomodoro with window controls)

Composite and transparencies even in older computers without 3D accelaration, and other good features even when not in use

Very efficient and fast overall system

Allows for better resolution in older computers where it was once not possible to play high quality videos due to resources required (includes HD videos in h264)

Perfect screen sincronization in video playback.

Kernel 3.2.0 supporting older computers, which means that new computers will be supported too

Recent and updated applications

Lots of packages like libreoffice ready for giving a complete suite to the end-users

Extremely useful new tools made by Elive, like: bkp, waitfor, elivepaste, showmyip, etc...

A enlightened terminal with a great demo

As we have already said, we will appreciate feedback about the overall speed/lightness of the system compared to last stable version of Elive. You can also comment on it in our chat channel directly from the running system. If you detect any lagging in the system please consider different setups like disabling composite (which you can select on the startup of the graphical system) in order to report improvements. We would also appreciate feedback on the speed/responsiveness of the system, especially with the composite enabled and disabled, suggestions for better performances, and memory usage compared to Topaz.

For this development release the Elive Installer is not ready and proprietary drivers (Nvidia/fglrx) are not included. But the opensource drivers
should detect your hardware and configure your system perfectly.

Just when you were thinking that nothing would surprise you, here is Elive on its first presentation... the best is yet to come!

Please remember that this is an alpha version of Elive.
     You can Download the ISO
    at the development section

Newsletter: Updates, Elive, Debian, and Enlightenment

LinuxConf Barcelona and Enlightenment

Raster and other main developers of Enlightnment talked and presented some things about EFL/Enlightenment, they talked about the future features where they want to focus like a totally integrated composite in E17 itself, there was fun, trolling, and beer. I got a very beatiful towel with the enlightenment logo!

Yesterday in the LinuxCon in Barcelona, Mike Blumenkrantz announced the date for the release of Enlightenment 17, they decided to made a beta release at first of December and the stable release for the day 21 of December, I don't know what will happen if we wake up the day 22 and we still here (joking).

Elive and Future releases

Some people thinks that there's no activity on the Elive development, that's normal since they don't see any activity, but there is a lot of it, a lot of work is happening in the background, to prove it you can see a development ISO in the Development section, but I don't suggest to download it so its not ready for any useful user usage, it only includes updated kernel, updated enlightnement, and only the new enlightened terminal and development tools installed, it was originally made as a temporal need for development so its not useful at all and doesn't give any Elivized experience. By other side this means: new development versions are coming very soon! stay tuned!

Debian is also going to release very soon, nobody knows the date, I suspect that it will be in a month or so, Elive is going to use the new Wheezy future stable release as base, so this is another reason of why Elive needs to be released asap! :)

Development

Every day more sources of Elive are being worked from the the github repositories, so if you feel motivated and have some knowledge, you can try to improve them!

See you for now! Until the next development release of Elive!

Save the Internet

Do you know that the US government is trying to approve a law that blocks, censor, and blacklist internet ?

This is something that many people knew that would happen sooner or later, why ? because internet is the most important communication tool that the humanity has had all over the history, communication is evolution, is a purely free share of knowledge, and the governments don't want people with knowledge, they need non-thinking people like in ancient times of the humanity. But this is going to change they like it or not, , we are evoluting, and even capitalism needs smart people now, and this is a non-stop process that will continue happening naturally, but only if we have free internet.

Internet created the "open source software" and all its entire development is thanks to free communication between people. Capitalism doesn't like open source very much, and it will be very easy to erradicate it from the world by blocking those related things on internet. If you think that you are smart enough to use Proxy's and things like that, you should know that in those laws they declare it ilegal, so you will go to the jail by using a proxy. There are lots of details about this on internet.

It is not a matter of what is correct and what not, it's a matter of being free in a world manipulated by the monetary interests, we want to stay free, we are evoluting, we want to continue doing that. You should know that internet is one of the most important things that the humanity has got since centuries, so if you think that you need to exige your freedom, this is the moment.

Elive Website

Would You Like a New Elive Website ?

We are considering migrating the current Elive website to a Wordpress based one!

Why? Well, I personally like a lot MODx, and even if I recommend it to everybody, there are several reasons for this change: A lot of people think that there isn’t much activity on the Elive project, mainly because the website is never updated. The website is based on MODx, which is amazing, but is better when there is an active administrator or somebody featuring it, it's like a mix between cms and framework where you can build a really very good website, it has a very good made and structured code and you will end in a excelent result, reliable and stable for long time, the only bad points of it is that is not very used by the community, this means that has not very much plugins, in other words, you can't use the multitude of plugins made by the community making the website more dynamic. Wordpress has a multitude of plugins. For example, I have found a very nice plugin that translates the website into multiple languages using Google Translator and it also gives the users the ability to correct the translation, which is pretty nice!

A more dynamic website means more news. It will be easier to post and manage content, as well as add polls. There are top-quality templates that will improve the look of the Elive website. More specifically, the new website will feature:

A pretty nicer look, more professional and dynamic for our contents

Translations to any language (we will need your collaboration to have it correctly translated in yours :))

More easy to add contents, this means, more howtos, tips, and instructions

Nicer screenshots!

More features, like polls, RSS, bookmark / share

To migrate our website, we will need first to import our current plugins to the wordpress API and find some possible workarounds with the CSS. Stay tunned to the Elive News to see the first versions of the new website! We will discuss about it, about suggestions, and about errors, and all related to the new website on this forum thread.

So you might see a completely new Elive Website in the future. Don't think that it was hacked! it was just moved :)
